In 1948 Clarence Sydney Chadwick established a small
timber yard in Leichhardt, selling hardwood, fencing and
flooring. As demand increased for hardwood in home
construction, Clarence opened mills at Wauchope and Nambucca
Heads.
In 1958 Clarence's son John joined the firm, with
training in accountancy he increased Chadwick's growth and
built a strong company. Johns brother Jim joined the company
in 1964 followed by Clary, their contribution helping to
make the company a success.
In 1979 a new location was sought to accommodate the
ever-changing business. The present site at Smithfield was
chosen because of its central location.
In 2004 we look towards the future with a third
generation involved in the company. John and Jim's sons
Michael and David who after many years of hands on timber
experience in the mill and yard, now head our sales staff,
manning the phones and offering expert advice on all timber
issues with a personal, friendly approach.
Michele Chadwick and Carey Riley are personal assistants
to John Chadwick, Managing Director, while Jim Chadwick
manages staff needs and work cover issues making a safe
environment for a loyal group of long term employees whose
skills and experience blend with the family and form a
strong relationship.
From humble beginnings, Chadwick's Timber is continually
striving, in an increasingly competitive market, for the
future
